Esquire just released its list of the Top 200 bars in the U.S. and, not surprisingly, Chicago made quite the impression. Esquire spirits correspondent, David Wondrich, served up his top picks in the upfront of the article, including The Drawing Room which he describes as "unassuming, hardworking, and smart."
Other local establishments making the list are below, some of which we found rather surprising.
- The Violet Hour
- The Matchbox
- The California Clipper
- Sheffield's
- Longman & Eagle
- Hideout
- Delilah's
- Chipp Inn
Obviously this list opens up the debate to what actually makes a good bar. The spirits selection? The friendly service? The atmosphere? The music options? The list is endless. But before you start going on and on about the best Chicago watering holes, do your friends a favor, grab some beer.
