Delve Screams for Ice Cream

Delve loves J Bar. But more importantly, Delve loves ice cream. So when we heard that David Burke's Primeshouse Executive Pastry Chef Jove Hubbard was launching a Friday series of pop-up ice cream shops at J Bar, we immediately blocked off our Friday calendar.

Flavors will change each week, starting this week with Rocky Road and Coffee and Donuts.

Scoops will run you $5 each (cash only) and are being served up every Friday, from 3-5 p.m.

We'll see you there.

Esquire's Best Bars in America 2011

If asked to name your top 200 bars in the U.S., could you do it? We at Delve fancy to think that we could. In fact, we could probably muster up a list of our top 200 bars in Chicago alone. But let’s save a conversation about our cocktail’ing habits for another day.

Esquire just released its list of the Top 200 bars in the U.S. and, not surprisingly, Chicago made quite the impression. Esquire spirits correspondent, David Wondrich, served up his top picks in the upfront of the article, including The Drawing Room which he describes as "unassuming, hardworking, and smart."

Other local establishments making the list are below, some of which we found rather surprising.

Obviously this list opens up the debate to what actually makes a good bar. The spirits selection? The friendly service? The atmosphere? The music options? The list is endless. But before you start going on and on about the best Chicago watering holes, do your friends a favor, grab some beer.

Must See: Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty

While we don't often like to leave our city for its louder, dirtier and more expensive counterpart (aka NYC), sometimes a trip to the Big Apple is a must. Between now and July 31 that's never been more true because The Met is home to the "Savage Beauty" exhibit showcasing the works of the one and only Alexander McQueen. Words can't describe the dark, twisted beauty of McQueen's body of work, with every room in the exhibit seeming to top the next. Showcasing everything from his postgraduate collection in 1992 to his final runway presentation in February of 2010, his iconic designs take fashion to a level that is not of this world.

Claustrophobics be warned. Visiting the exhibit this past weekend, we waited in line for an hour, only to walk through the exhibit shoulder to shoulder with hundreds of others. Needless to say the crowds were worth it, bedazzled armadillo shoes are even more mind-boggling in real life.

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty
Running until July 31, 2011
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC

Ticket Discount: 7th Annual Chefs and the City Benefit

You never know what can happen when all (literally, all) of Chicago’s best chefs are under one roof. But for the price of $225, you can soon find out.

On July 15th, the 7th annual Chefs and the City benefit will take place at the Ritz-Carlton Chicago with honorary chairs Candace Jordan, Amanda Puck and Rich Varnes, and chef chair Ryan Pitts of RL Restaurant. The tasting meets fashion show benefit will feature bites by 30 of Chicago’s favorite and most highly acclaimed chefs and fashions by Maria Pinto, Creative Director at Mark Shale.

We know it’s pricey, so if you need more convincing, we’ll let the list of participating chefs do the talking: Stephanie Izard (Girl & the Goat), Erick Williams (MK), Martial Nogueir (Bistronomic), Partick Bahy (Blackbird), Guiseppe Tentori (BOKA/GT Fish & Oyster), Andrew Zimmerman (Sepia) and Dale Levitski (Sprout). View full list here.

Sharp Dressed Man

Re-browsing through the March GQ, we ladies at Delve got to thinking about guys' style. We do love a guy with a solid fashion sense, but we don't love when it's over the top or seems forced. So where should guys draw the line on trying out fashion forward frocks? Delve asked some of our best girls to weigh in on all of the items gracing GQ's Spring Trend Report. Here's what we thought was hot, what was, well, not...and what we are still on the fence about.

Hot:
The dressy sport coat
Gray jeans
Colored chino
Woven belts
Gray faced watches
Colors of the season: red and midnight blue

Not:
Short-sleeve dress shirts (buttoned to the top no less)
The tennis short (pasty man thigh? no thanks.)
The Mac
Leather strap sandals

Only if the guy can pull it off:

Tees under suits
Stacked patterns
Khaki suit
Eye-grabbing cardigans
Linen suit
Double-breasted sport jacket

Craft Beer Week 2011

So many brews. So little time.

Organized by the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild, today marks the start of this oh-so-sudsy week of libations, bringing together the best of the areas breweries, brewmasters and
(brew)drinkers.

Don't know where to start? We're here to help! Pick up your passport (available on site at all participating bars, restaurants, etc.), get some carbs in your system, and head to one of Delve's top picks for the week:

5.19

Owen & Engine: Two Brothers releases their first-ever keg of Askew from the brewery. 5 p.m. - 1 a.m.

Revolution Brewing: Tour the entire brewery including a sneak peek of the under-construction second floor. 12 - 1 p.m.

Garfield Park Conservatory's Beer Under the Glass: Beer from over 25 breweries + small plates. Tickets are $50 at the door, and include a passport. 5-9 p.m.

5.20
Goose Island Summertime South Loop Crawl - starting at Kroll's (5:30pm), also hit Reggie's Bar (6:30pm), Weather Mark Tavern (7:30pm), Jimmy Green's (8:30pm), Wabash Tap (9:30pm), and Flo and Santo's (10:30pm).

Paddy Long’s 4th Annual Mayfest: One of Delve's fave Chicago dive bars is featuring German food, German beer and a polka band. Sold. 7 p.m. - 2 a.m.

5.21
Haymarket Pub & Brewery's Beerfly Allyfight: Homebrewers + home chefs + local artists. All paired. All delish. 12-6 p.m.

Beer Bistro: We've unsuccessfully tried to go to the Brooklyn Brewery the last two times we were in Williamsburg, so now they've come to us. At one of our fave West Loop spots no less.

5.22
Chicago History Museum's Voyage of the IPA: Covering 200 years of the IPA, while enjoying fab views of the Chicago River and Lake Michigan. $65 6-8 p.m.

5.23
Revolution Brewing: Matty Kemp showcases his Oat Brown Ale, a tribune to Van Halen. 11 a.m. - 1 a.m.

Blokes & Birds: Two innovative breweries under one roof. Metropolitan Brewing to showcase their orange curacao and coriander-infused Krankshaft brew while Two Brothers Brewing offers up two beers: the Askew (sour) and the Pahoehoe. We are dying to try the latter because a.) it's called Pahoehoe, and b.) it's brewed with coconut water, milk sugar and toasted organic coconut (instead of dry-hopping, they dry-coconuted the beer). 5 p.m.

5.24
The Map Room: Two of our go-to Midwest breweries, Great Lakes and Founders will showcase their top libations alongside a tempting lineup of bites including: chicken sausage with orange peel and pork and lamb sausage with mint and coconut milk. 6-9 p.m.

The Bristol's Goose Island and Zagat Sour Night: If you don't love sours, this isn't the stop for you. A few featured brews on our list: Mae and Amara. 7 p.m. - 12 a.m.

5.25
The Publican: Check out one of Chicago's newest breweries, 5 Rabbit alongside Metropolitan brewmasters. 4-6 p.m.

Paramount Room: Brooklyn Brewery is making another appearance and pairing with a mouthwatering food lineup. Check out the full menu here. $50 7-10 p.m.

5.26
Map Room's Brewers of Chicago Past: Bump elbows with some of Chicago's pioneer brewers who now grace the kegs of breweries all over the country. 6 p.m. - 1 a.m.

Maria's Packaged Goods & Community Bar: Mix and mingle with Steve Kuftinec, owner of Uinta Brewery at one of Delve's most adored spots. 8 p.m. - 1 a.m.

5.27
Revolution Brewing: End the week with a slew of Chicago's best brewmasters under one roof. $50, two sessions: 4-7 p.m. and 8-11 p.m.
