Getting Back to Our Roots

So we don't reside in Italy, but with our love of pizza, you'd think we did. Let's just say we were over-the-(pizza-shaped)-moon when we learned of Ukrainian Village newcomer Roots Handmade Pizza (1924 W. Chicago Ave.). This funky spot is a fantastic addition to the Chicago Ave. restaurant scene. Think it's only a pie shop? Wrong. We're still drooling over their salads, apps, beer list and patio.

Here are our must-try's:

Delve Eats:
  • Pizza: Quad Cities Style 'za which translates to cheese atop the ingredients. It's also cut into scissor-cut strips. We tried all of the specialty pizzas and preferred the Taco and BLT - two of our favorite things on a pizza, nothing wrong with that.
  • Mozzarella Sticks: Homemade mozzarella, fried amazingness.
  • Tomato, Avocado and Mozzarella Salad (notice the cheese trend developing?): The aforementioned ingredients are dressed up with sunflower seeds, roasted corn and cilantro vinaigrette.

Delve Drinks:

The Roots' beer list is a local beer aficionado's dream with 70+ beers sourced from the Midwest. Delve tested out the following, and we obviously still have a lot of work to do on our next visit:
  • California Steam - Argus Brewery (Chicago, IL)
  • Krankshaft Kolsch - Metropolitan Brewery (Chicago, IL)
  • Marisol by Goose Island (locally brewed of course and created with the help of Mr. Rick Bayless)
  • Centennial IPA - Founder's (Michigan)
