Spotlight: Little Italy's Davanti Enoteca

When restaurant extraordinaire, Scott Harris (the man behind the Mia Francesca franchise), opened Davanti Enoteca on Taylor Street, the hearts of wine-os everywhere were singing his praise. A top-notch Italian small plate restaurant with a wine retail shop in back? Yes, please.

For a $7 corkage fee, guests can pick out a bottle of their fave vino to take home or have with dinner, or choose from the also impressive wine list already on the menu. As for the food, Davanti loves truffle oil. And egg. A lot. Executive Chef, Jonathan Beatty (formerly of Purple Pig), offers up dishes that are meant to be shared; and trust us, you will want to share. Menu must-haves include the Truffle Egg Toast with fontina and asparagus, the Uovo in Ravioli 'San Domenico' (giant ravioli with ricotta, egg and spinach) and the Risotto Carbonara.

The bar at Davanti is also turning into quite the topic of conversation on Taylor Street, with two frozen taps - one for featured local beer and the other for house-infused vodka (hello, every girl's dream).

Only downfall: expect to wait for a table. On the up side, guests are free to wander the streets of Little Italy with the promise of receiving a phone call when the table is ready. Our recommendation for table-waiting-cocktailing is to head to the newly opened gastropub, Three Aces, barely a block away from Davanti. It's dark and edgy, but with just the right amount of conviction.
