New Target Store Faces Criticism

I have been known to go into Target looking for shampoo and walking out with a new wardrobe, blender and patio furniture. Needless to say, when I heard that my favorite retailer was occupying the former Carson Pirie Scott space (State and Madison), I got excited for my closet and nervous for my pocketbook.

Opening in October 2012, the new tenant has met some resistance from the local community who considers the building a city landmark. Criticism does not come unwarranted, I still can’t bring myself to call Marshall Field’s Macy’s. Mayor Daley has commented on the situation saying that the new Target will help keep State St. and the rest of the loop strong (the current space has been vacated since 2007).

What are your thoughts on the new occupant? Welcome change or blow to tradition?
