For first timers, Core Power offers a free week of classes which is a great way to test the waters sans commitment. Be sure to bring a water and a towel as they turn up the heat in the studio (I have never sweat more in my life). Getting there early is also key as the popular class packs yoga mats in like sardines. The class is traditional yoga mixed with light weights. Not knowing a downward facing dog from a warrior pose, I quickly caught on, although my neighbor probably thought I was a freak for staring at her every time the instructor yelled a new pose.
I left the class feeling sweaty and accomplished. The day after I feel a little bit of the burn in my core, just enough to know it’s working. Will I quit cardio and become a full time Yogi after this class? No. Will I start mixing up my traditional run with this a few times a week? Most definitely.
